In 1993, Selima's first shop opened its doors in SoHo and quickly became the rendezvous of all kinds of creative personalities who appreciated the craft quality of Selima's works. (It is true that they were also attracted to the dynamic personality of the designer!) Since then, Sélima Optique has made custom mounts for people like Bono, Liv Tyler and Madonna – to name but a few! These custom mount orders led to the official launch of the goggles collection brand Selima at Barneys New York in 1996, in her own shop-in-shop, the first of its kind. Selima also designs collections of specialized mounts for brands Jack Spade and J. Crew.
Over the years, the sources of fashion and cinema have inspired the creation of many Selima Optical frames, as have the vintage frames that Selima collects itself. But the greatest source of inspiration has always been Selima's daily interaction with its customers. In fact, Selima keeps busy in her eight shops! Selima Salaun is the creative vision behind Selima Optical, the brand and trend that she founded. Selima thinks your glasses reflect your look – the personality you project. Your look is the mood you transmit every day! Sélima was born along the Mediterranean coast and the rhythm of the Riviera is in its soul. It embodies French sensitivity, style and elegance. Selima is an optician-mooner, both optician and optometrist, who studied and perfected her art in Paris. She started her career at Royal Optique, a company whose personalized frames were the quintessence of European luxury bezeling. His ambition and love for the aesthetics of glasses led him to New York to run the Alain Mikli boutique. When she had the opportunity to settle in Tokyo for the brandHer destiny was sealed: she was inspired by the raw energy of New York and could not imagine living elsewhere! With her passion, expertise and inspiration, she created her own brand luxury – a fusion of this French sensitivity and the creativity of New York.
