The story of a name
Founded in Berlin in 2003, the first premises of MYKITA were installed in a Former nursery for childrenNamed Kita in German. This inspired not only the name My Kita, but also its culture of curiosity and play. Its founders begin with a clear aesthetic vision and a desire to doing things themselves. The creation of an open working environment and a sense of integrity towards everything in and around the product came intuitively.
Independent manufacturing
MYKITA started in the same independent and pioneering spirit that shaped her hometown, Berlin. With no one to make original eyeglasses, the decision was made to set up a internal production of eyeglasses and sunglasses. The development of their own tools and processes to meet design requirements has since become an operating principle of MYKITA and one of their greatest assets. At the heart of modern manufacturing is the combination of craftsmanship and new technologies adapted.
All under one roof
In 2014, MYKITA was installed in a historic building in the heart of Berlin Kreuzberg. Headed by the founder Moritz Krueger, the MYKITA HAUS team is a mix of people with diverse cultural backgrounds and individual talents that guide the product at each stage. The interaction between people and disciplines is at the root of the joy of experimenting and the commitment to quality reflected in their glasses.
A modern Berlin manufacture
MYKITA created the term « modern manufacturing » to describe the multidisciplinary approach of combine crafts and high technology processes. In addition to the departments of MYKITA HAUS that follow the product from design to final quality control, the modern manufacture integrates external experts to form an autonomous manufacturing network.
An inventive and independent nature is an integral part of the identity of our company. The constant pursuit of technical improvement and simple curiosity push MYKITA to look beyond the traditional limits of the eyewear industry, looking for new and relevant technologies in different fields to integrate them into our system. In collaboration with external partners, who continue to incubate and develop their technology, MYKITA maintains its activity at the forefront of technological innovation.
The design of Mykita
The clear design language at MYKITA starts with the integrity of the materials, highlighting the most attractive properties of the materials they work with. The design of their products is simple – see how a product is designed has become the most recognizable feature of MYKITA frames. The first collection presented a spiral hinge openly exposed, a mechanical solution that has become an accessory style element and a trademark of MYKITA frames. This original and patented hinge represents the guiding principle of design at MYKITA: the technical solution must also be aesthetic.
Creative collective
The MYKITA design team is a heterogeneous group of product designers and technical engineers. This mix of people with experience in the eyewear as well as designers and experts from other fields stimulates an interdisciplinary dialogue that creates new perspectives on eyeglasses. Working mainly with prototypes, the team develops the product as part of a practical process centered on the mount holder : each element of each model of glasses has been considered and thought in every detail.
